What to do after Suspended License?

Last night I got pulled over for a busted headlight. Next thing I know I am arrested and my car is going to the impound. I was booked and realeased. I was told I had failed to pay a ticket (ticket was because my car came to a stop about 5 inches after the stop sign) but I recall paying it. They said I didn't and so my license was suspended. I WAS SHOCKED!! I had no idea any of this was going on. I never recieved any word informing me of this and I thought the ticket had been taken care of. This has ruined my life and it just happned last night. I have kids that now have no ride to school and we live too far to walk. I finally have a little money for a downpayment on a house and God knows how much this is going to cost me. Please help me. What should I do? I am being honest when I say I didn't know my license was suspended. They took my license and my car.
