Wat are the best aviation careers $$$?

i really want to be a pilot however i have made the "regretful decision" to attend riddle. I know i will be paying student loans for ever especially if i decide to go the civil route, so what is the best way to go? become an engineer and do flying on the side for fun? what do aero engineers make starting off and later in careers? homeland security? atc? any ideas?
