Police hold on impounded car?

ok. so i got pulled over for one of my headlights being out. i got arrested for possession intent to sell and paraphernalia. they impounded my car and when i went to pick it up, they told me the officer has a hold on it? the car was also under my parents name and they told them they could release it to me... which didn't matter because then he told me about it being held.. i'm calling lawyers tomorrow but i just wanted to see if anyone had anything to say...?
